The National Day of the People's Republic of China, sometimes abbreviated as National Day or National Day, is a festival established to commemorate the founding of the People's Republic of China. The celebration date is set on October 1 each year. On October 1, 1949, the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China was held in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, and the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China was formally established. The statutory National Day holiday in mainland China is 3 days from October 1st to October 3rd, but the holiday is adjusted according to the day of the National Day that year. Generally, the weekend breaks of other weeks are adjusted to be before and after the 3-day legal holiday, and then connected with the weekend of the week, thus forming a 7-day long holiday. In case of other statutory holidays such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, 8 consecutive days of leave shall be used; in Hong Kong, the statutory holiday used to be 2 days in 1997 and 1998, and then changed to 1 day; in Macau, it is 2 days. During the National Day, various commemorative activities will be held to commemorate the revolutionary martyrs of the People's Republic of China. Since 2008, every National Day, party and state leaders have presented flower baskets to the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square. Overseas Chinese communities around the world will also hold celebrations, parades or flag-raising ceremonies to celebrate.
